Who thinks that the late 90s non-US Corolla looks a bit like a tercel 4x4 with all the sharp edges smoothed off?
(This is also a chance to post the most confusing press photo I’ve ever seen - What’s supposed to be going on? Why are the children so big?)

Because only a late 90s corolla can protect you from the imminent giant child invasion.
You laugh now, but it won’t be so funny when a giant child turns you and a stranger into tomato paste after smashing you both together while screaming, “ NOW KIIIITTTTHHHH!!!!! ”

I think you’re onto something here. But not given the explanation you’ve given. It’s because the Corolla is so sexless there will be no future children to invade us.

Kind of looks like a Tercel wagon and a Taurus wagon had a transporter incident.

I can see the similarities... but I also think that if you had not put the thought in my head, I would not be so inclined to say yes. Too many differences, it's really only the high back and the tail lights that show much resemblance. Now if you told me it was a GenII of the Tercel 4x4 wagon, I would probably fall believe it... well until I noticed the obvious Corolla plates and badging.

I was thinking it looked rather Australian, like a Holden HJ sandman. (which I know has almost nothing in common, it’s just what came to mind) I can’t put my finger on what it looks like, and maybe my mind is being stupid, but that front makes me really think some kind of Australian wagon.
